Requirements to join a Freemason Lodge

You need some basic qualifications in porder to become a Freemason. If you meet the Freemason criteria, you still have to go through a short process after applying to becoming a full member.

These are some of the basic qualifications that are common to all regular Masonic Lodges.

*  You must believe in a Supreme Being - normally referred to as God(s) the term is very open as Freemasonry is open to people of all religious faiths.
* You must be joining of your own free will Do not be influenced by a rtelation or family. Join because you want to
* You must be a man
* You must be free-born
The term "free-born" uis a holdover from the days when slavery, indentured servitude, and bonding to another man. It means a man must be his own master, and not be bound to another man. That is not a problem these days, but the language is retained because of its anticuity and a desire to retain the heritage of the fraternity.
* You must be of lawful age. The minimum age fior the UK is 21- unless you are the son of a Freemason, in which case you can join at 18. There are a number of University Lodges that also have a lower joining age.
* You must be recommended by at least two existing Freemasons from the lodge you are petitioning or applying.

Masonry does not care about your wordly wealth or social position. All men are considered equally qualified.
You will be asked other important questions down the road, before you are allowed to join a Lodge
* Are you unbiased by friends and uninfluenced by any mercenary motives. Please do not apply if you think you'll be using your membership to get out of trouble or to be a network for your business.
* Do you have a favourable opinion of Freemasonry?
+ All societies have rules and expect its members to comply, so do Freemasons. Nothing scary here, health clubs and city parks have the same requirements
